Hoisting and Rigging Level 1

This Level 1 course builds the core skills needed to plan and execute safe lifts in the shop and on the jobsite. We focus on hazard recognition, proper equipment selection, inspection, communication, and basic calculations used every day by sheet metal workers moving HVAC components, duct sections, and architectural assemblies.
What you’ll learn:
– Safety fundamentals: PPE, pinch/crush hazards, rigging zone control, taglines, and pre-lift planning
– Equipment identification and inspection: synthetic/web slings, wire rope, alloy chain, shackles, hooks, eyebolts, spreader bars, chainfalls/come‑alongs, gantries, and tuggers
– Rigging basics: center of gravity, working load limits, hitch types (vertical, choker, basket), sling angles, D/d ratios, and sling tension calculations
– Communication: standard crane hand signals and signal person basics
– Practical application: setting hardware, controlling loads, and documenting inspections for daily use
